    Hi.

I've read that the earlier versions of this engine were pretty bullet proof, but what is the 1.4 d4d engine like in the Auris model year 2013+ like? Would it be trouble free of does it suffer the usual diesel issues like dpf, dmf, turbo, chain issues, etc?

Yearly mileage would be approx 30k kms on country a/b roads.

    Thanks.

The parents have a '16 one of these for a year or two and no trouble so far

Thanks for the reply. What sort of mileage is on it?

Anyone else with experience of this engine in the Auris.

We do 30k kms per year currently in a 1.4 petrol golf. The main requirement in a car is reliability. Would the 1.33 D-vvti petrol or 1.4 D4d diesel be the best bet in the new model Auris for this mileage. Want to stick with a manual and smallish engine to insure our 17 year old.

I have a 152 diesel corolla and I love it . It’s the first car that I am going to keep over 3 years as it’s a dream to drive and very economical. I have had zero issues with it and average 28,000 km a year approx

I think it was bought with 16k on it and not its at 30 or 40k. No issues so far

Sounds good. Probably better for the bigger mileage than the 1.33 petrol.

What's it like to run on fuel?

What are the servicing schedule and costs like?

Not exactly sure on mileage but should be good for 50-55mpg anyways. They're very good.

Service schedule would be every 15k km for oil and filters.

Cost would vary depending on where you go. An indie is usually cheaper than a main dealer, unless you catch a sale at the main dealer.

Can I be honest my dad had the petrol version of the exact same car except 161 and I hate it . It is sluggish I find in comparison and I hate driving it when I have too . The too are chalk and cheese to me and if I had the petrol version I would have gotten rid of it by now ,

The 1.4 diesel corollas are pretty quick for what they are.

Thanks. Had driven both on short test drives. Yeah found the diesel had a bit more power. I was just a bit weary of a diesel with all the horror stories. But it does seem that the 1.4 d4d is a pretty reliable engine once looked after.

That's good real world mpg. Service schedule sounds reasonable, same as what I'm used to with the Golf. I do hear offers on the radio from time to time for used car servicing offers for Toyota.

You might want to consider a Hyundai i30 1.6 CRDI, solid engine and arguably a better car than the Auris.

Yeah, heard they were also good. But I'd imagine insurance would be more expensive when adding a 17 year old.

Yeah the Hyundai has a bit more power so it might make a difference but you never know with insurance companies how they work these things out.

Yeah they can be a mystery and no two are the same. I did ask about and it seems they go on engine size and power. So even 1.0 high powered turbo may also be prohibited for younger drivers. He's not 17 till next year and we need to change now, so no way of knowing for sure what they would quote. Maybe I can ask them for a guide price.

The diesel, certainly, for fuel economy. Both are very reliable engines. The newer 1.2 litre petrol is much better in terms of performance.

Thanks. Wonder how the 1.2T is performing in the real world in terms of fuel economy. I'd imagine they are nice to drive and reliable being a Toyota petrol engine. But I do fear that these small turbo engines are running to the max a lot of the time, so may not be robust long term.

Any experience with the 1.6 V-matic engine?

Can be got for keen prices in the North/UK.
Seems to have decent power and economy. And I think the tax is still only €280.

Buying a car with a small diesel engine still makes a lot of sense, certainly in terms of running costs, so the D4D is probably the best option for you.

Very good engine and they have a better suspension setup to most auris's.

Does the 1.6 get IRS John?

Only ones that don't are the 1.33 and the 1.4 diesel.

    Whats IRS?

    Independent Rear Suspension.

Which is nearly all of the irish ones. The 1.6 valvematic is very rare here and was only available in auto. The uk got the 1.6 valvematic with a manual gearbox which is the one to go for imo.
