What elements of life are most important for your happiness?

Just saw an interesting skynews article where british people were polled and asked to order which factors affected their happiness most.

Sleep quality, a good sex life and feeling like you have enough free time were the top three factors leading to a high living well score.

The poll of more than 8,000 people conducted at the start of 2018 also found that those who eat meals with others scored significantly higher on the index than someone who never does.Activities such as meeting and speaking to friends and family, or chatting to neighbours, had a clear positive reaction.

More than half of those with the highest scores met up with friends and family several times a week or more, whereas most of those at the bottom of the index did so once a month or less. The research found that digital interaction with friends and family isn't enough, as the results showed there was no association with these interactions and our wellbeing.

People were also happier during the summer time, possibly due to the weather or more likely the increased social interaction allowed due to the sunny/warmer weather.

Interesting that the more usual answers such as physical health, education, living in a low crime area, transport connections, job safety didnt come ahead of them

Family, friends, good food, books and dogs.

And obviously enough money to enjoy all those things without having to worry.

People say money isn't the root to happiness but it definitely helps who realistically wants to live in dire poverty everyday life is becoming much too expensive for average joes like myself i certainly think things would be much easier if i had more money in my pocket.

Money is a strange one. It can cause a lot of upset. Families fighting over inheritance, spouses tearing each others eyes out for the last cent, jealousy among those who want more.
I remember making far more money than I do now and being up to my eyes in debt. Today I'm debt free and it's liberating.

In saying all that money is important because it can prevents us from poverty and give us leeway with how we live our lives. It's all how you perceive and handle it I think. There are people with more money than they can shake a hat at and they are miserable.

Alternatively: if you have heavy enough booze, you won't care what the women and metal are like.

For me, it's family and my wife foremost. Having the company of each other every day, walking and eating together, sitting in the garden, or in companionable silence watching TV. The simple everyday things.

Grandchildren smiling when they see us.

The beauty of the countryside around us.

Having all our wants with regard to money in pocket or food in the cupboard helps too.

A previous study found the two most important things are:
    1. How do you compare with your peers?
    2. Do you feel your life is improving?

Having a sense of accomplishment. Doing a good job.

    Helping a stranger.

A good nights sleep, 9 hours ideally.

    Something to look forward to.

I would be happy if I had my own house. I am 22 and still live with parents to save some money. Sharing with others would be terrible as well. It would give me great security to know even if I lose my job I would have a place to go and no one can kick me out of there. Hate living with parents who are arguing everyday, and renting would suck because of the amount of money it costs.

Sleep quality, good sex life and quality free time, are all deeply interconnected with one's physical health! (and also education & job status too)

An unhealthy person does not have good sleep quality or good sex. Even if you have free time, how can you make the most out of that time, if you are tired and out of shape!? Your mood will not be very good either... Also, if your job status is uncertain or not adequately covering the bills, you will find it very difficult to be happy!

These things are not so cut and dry, as surveys and studies sometimes try to suggest.
