    Hi All

I have recently been offered employment for an online tuition service. It's basically a website that specialise in providing examination questions for the license to become a pilot (ATPL) ... I'm gonna be working as a moderator/tutor in helping people understand topics and things to the exam questions they can't understand.

Now an issue that has arisen is this company are based in the Czech Republic and I will be self employed. They are only willing to employ me on the basis of me providing them with a VAT number.

I have tried looking at revenue.ie and understanding how I can get a VAT number but I'm left more confused than when I first went searching. All I can find is how a business may go about doing so, but I don't have a business. So how may I apply and get one as a personal individual?

    I greatly appreciate any replies,

    Thanks

If you’re self employed you are actually a business, albeit a one-person business, so you should follow the instructions for registering a business for VAT

I know a lot of sectors related to education are vat exempt but that won't help your cause if the company are insisting on a VAT number for payment? Have you tried asking your local tax office?
