6 months from the date of first registration

Also anything that new will take them a bout a week to get back to you and check everything over. So make sure you are definitely over the 6 month mark as they will do a thorough check

Or, if you are buying from a UK dealer, just buy it VAT free and pay the vat here....(it will cost you anything extra 3%)

Even if I get it over the 6mth/6km ?

Many dealers will not want to get involved in VAT free sales, a lot of them simply do not know the process, I put a deposit down on my Leaf and waited two weeks to get it at 6months old and a day to avoid VAT

It's not a difficult process. Tell them in advance about the procedure, linking them to the UK revenue website where it's detailed. When they see that it's 1) official and 2) easy, they should be happy to comply.

I was interested in a blue Ioniq SE in the UK and walked the dealer through the process. He was doubtful at first, then happy to do it when he followed the link I sent him. I didn't buy in the end, but a fellow Boardsie benefited from the work and bought the car.

I totally agree on the process, just dealers want to avoid hassle and would prefer a traditional straight sale route

...I concur with the above and thank you for not buying the car in the end as it's now sitting in the driveway.
I approached 2 dealers...the first one was a little hesitant but was happy enough when I sent him the explicit links to his own governments website which clearly explains the bit about the VAT free element of it and what the law is....in the end the car sold via a walk in as I was still negotiating via email.
So I then saw and bought the car that Ewan Hoosarmi was talking about.

from a practicality point of view once you educate the dealer its genuinely only one form and it's < 3 minutes work to populate it.
The other difference in relation to the registration form in reality just means less work for the dealer as they don't need to do anything with the form at all, just give it all to you (instead of doing a partial return to the DVLA)
