Seeking advice on rights or, next step

    Hi,

Took my car to a local independent garage to have brake pads and two bearings replaced. Afterwards, every time I brake, there are creaking/crunching, knocking sounds and squeaking.

I've taken the car back to the garage 5 TIMES since. Each time they've given it back to me and said it's fixed. I drive down the road or after a few miles, and the noises are back.

Last took it to them last Friday. The noises are back, and this time the noises are happening even when I'm not braking.

What are my rights here? I've been extremely patient and taken lots of time off work. I need my car for work also.

To get them to check it again, I'll need to take more time off work, and there's every chance they'll give me the car back, say it's fixed, and I'll be back to square one afterwards.

Can I ask them to pay for me to take it to another garage to have fixed?

    Any advice much appreciated.

Give them the car, get them to test drive it before handing it back? Are these noises just since you brought it in?

We did that last Friday. Mechanic got in the car and I began to reverse out of the garage and he could hear the noise even with the little braking I did reversing the car 10 feet and he said we didn't need to drive it any further.

Got the car back two hours later and he said he'd changed the brake pads again and that he test drove it afterwards and the noises were gone.

Yes, the noises have begun since they first changed the pads and bearings two months ago or so. The noises come from the front wheels.

Any advice on potential next course of action would be much appreciated

Maybe get some other garage to check it and tell you what exactly is causing the noise....
