Not eligible for illness benefit question

My doctor has put me on certified sick leave. I was unemployed before my current job. I was at the social welfare today and the lady thought I probably had not worked in the company long enough. I was told by my HR that I was to get the social to pay my job and they pay me.

If I am not eligible for sick leave, and I'm out of work for some time does that mean I won't get a penny? I've been working in my current company for 93 weeks Or 1 year, 9 months

    Many thanks in advance.

"To qualify for payment of Illness Benefit you must satisfy the following two conditions: *

You must have at least 104 weeks of PRSI contributions paid since you first started work

    and either

39 weeks of PRSI contributions paid or credited in 2016 of which 13 must be paid contributions.
[If you do not have 13 paid contributions in 2016, then 13 paid contributions in one of the following tax years can be used instead:
    • Either 2014 or 2105
    • 2017
    • 2018.]

    OR

26 weeks of PRSI contributions paid in 2016 and 26 weeks of PRSI contributions paid in 2015.

    So first question:

have you got a total of 104 paid contributions since you first started work?

    If not, then you're bunched.

    If yes,

    second question:

do you have 39 weeks of PRSI credits in 2016 (i.e. were you signing on for at least 9 months of that year?)

because if you do, then it appears that the 13 weeks' of paid credits that you have for both 2017 and 2018 satisfy the second requirement.

That's my best interpretation of the rules, but I'd welcome the input of someone more familiar with the system!

First question - No I've worked there 93 ish weeks

Second question - I signed on January - August 2016 so 8 months

Ouch.....Looks like I'm bunched so.... Funny my only option to actually get money is to quit my job...

If you quit your job voluntarily then you won't be eligible for JA or JB for the first 9 weeks - also you need to be fit for work to claim it, so if you're ill, then you're not eligible to get it - Catch 22!

Looks as though the following is the only payment that you may be eligible for if you're out from work due to illness for a significant length of time:-
