What really gets me about this case is that he didn't tell his wife about the whole situation until the evening before his trial!

Two and a half years and that poor woman hadn't a clue....imagine having that bombshell dropped on you.

Defence counsel Barry White SC submitted to Ms Justice Creedon that there had been "great difficulty" in getting Phillips to realise the gravity of matters and there was a lack of realisation on his part.

Yesterday, Mr White submitted that Phillips wished to "unreservedly apologise for his behaviour". Mr White said his client had not informed his wife about the matter until the evening before his trial last month.

Why does that 'really get you'? Are you good friends with her or something?

She got an extra two and a half years of her life in blissful ignorance. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

Probably thought he would get away with it, and the wife need never know...
Save her the years of stress.

He also did the whole "it was consensual" until after he was convicted when suddenly he's apologizing unreservedly.

Let's not get away from the fact that he orally raped the victim.
Not telling the wife isn't that big a deal in comparison.
All are actions of a coward.

He probably lived in denial and thought it might just go away altogether.
I'm glad it's going to court, too many rapes doesn't go to court.

Its a horrible thing to do to his wife.surely you can empathise with her situation and feel anger towards him for doing it even if you dont know either of them personally

That is true, but Im sure if you asked her shed say shed have liked to know that she had been sharing a bed with a convicted rapist and even if she believes him that he didnt rape her he still at least cheated on her

It’s not his wife I’d be worried about...

She is a secondary victim. He was unfaithful and did it by raping someone. There's no real comparison between the two but she, and her children, were affected horribly by this as well.

The only person to not feel sorry for is the rapist.

Imagine her revulsion at unknowingly having sex with a rapist who cheated on her and their kids.

Poor victim, poor wife too. :(

I sort of 'knew' him from Twitter. Seemed normal based on the one or two interactions I had with him. Most rapists probably do. It's particularly horrible that he didn't plead guilty and spare his victim from enduring the trial. Presumably that decision will see him go down for a lot longer than would otherwise have been the case.

I had to thank this post as it just cracked me up when I read it.

But seriously, the way ppl talk about all court cases here as if they were immediately effected by them is something I will always find most odd. Why do ppl want to get so emotionally involved in cases that have nothing whatsoever to do with them? Drama queens or witch hunters, warped entertainment, who knows. That's why I had to laugh out loud at facehuggers comment.

I'm neither, but I've been affected by case with nothing to do with me
I'm particular saddened by cases when children are hurt or killed . I assume it's cos of the wasted life and the fact kids are always blameless.

I don't see why it's such a hard concept for you to grasp.
    Bit of dick post tbh
