    Hi All,

I am trying to help my cousin sort out what her potential earnings are going to be. Ill give some background.

Currently she is on Widows pension of €385 a week and 1/2 rate Carers of €104. she is in receipt of domiciliary allowance and respite grant for her son. She has 4 children aged 6-16.

She has the opportunity to return to employment. She has been offered a job with 2 options 1st is to work 15 hrs @ 10.50 per hour. 2nd option is to give up Carers allowance and work 20 hrs @12.50 per hour as a supervisor.

she has 4 children 1 who is autistic and its him she receives Carers for. He is in school and the hours will be during school time. So it will mean she will only need childcare for him on school holidays. He is 13 now and a lot easier to handle so between us in the family we can help out for that.

she is anxious about give up carers as in case it doesn't work out with work/ childcare it will be hard to get it back.

I have tried to work out where each option will leave her financially but its beyond my brain!!

any help or advice would be appreciated.

    TIA

Is she getting the contributory or the non-contributory survivor's (widow's) pension? I assume that it's the contributory one.

    €696 is the first option
    (Carers €104 +Widows €385+wages €157.50 no FIS because not working 19 hours)
    €755 is the second option ( €120 FIS €250 wages €385 Widows)
She keeps the DCA and the respite care grant but the household benefits and the free travel will be gone.
