    Hi guys,

Just need a little advice. I'm thinking of buying a 07 Passat Highline privately but the issue I have is that there are 150,000 miles on the clock. However, in the past 3 months it has had the clutch, timing belt, water pump and fly wheel done. It got a new battery recently also. It also apparently has a full service history and receipts for work done on it.

The current owner has only had it 2 months but the reason for sale seems genuine. It was bought from a garage and has 3 previous owners (including the garage). Looks clean inside and out and it is advertised around 2500 euro. Is it worth the buy?

    Thanks

Call me cynical but it's hard to picture a genuine reason to buy a 10 year old Passat, sink a load of money into a new clutch and flywheel and timing belt kit only to sell the car 8 weeks later.

I could be wrong but it sounds like they are getting out.

    Thanks for the reply.

To my understanding from checking Motortax.ie Change of ownership dates, the clutch and flywheel were both replaced by the garage 3 weeks before it was transferred to the current owner.

The current owner had the timing belt, water pump and battery fitting done prior to the advertisement of the car a month after he bought it.

I would rather not tbh, privacy reasons and all but the last VRC was issued mid March.

    Motortax.ie info:

Transferred to an Individual on: 23/02/2018 (Assuming the garage)

    Notified on: 14/03/2018
Most recent Vehicle Registration Certificate issued on: 16/03/2018

If all that work is done and it’s a genuine sale it might be a good buy but I would be wary of those passats having owned one. I have had a succession of silly and expensive issues with mine, air intake manifold, egr valve, electric window motors, locking system on passenger door, lumbar support collapsed, remote keys failed etc. Nice car in fairness, very economical and comfy, but apparently made of matchsticks.

NCT is coming up so my plan is to flog it with 2 years test. Will be very very glad to see the back of it and won’t be going VW again

I'd agree with that. Those Passats are ****e anyway. Definitely not VW's finest hour.
