Not a huge drunker but throwing a party soon, mostly 20yo students. Wondering what some popular good value brands are? thanks

It'll depend on what deals are running - if the party coincides with a bank holiday weekend then you should see good deals on trays of lager and cider.

Molson lager is a reliable party option and for cider, Orchard Thieves and Outcider seem to be getting more buzz than Bulmers lately.
Rockshore is a new lager just launched by Guinness-Diageo so you might get some kudos for stocking that!

Can't go wrong with Tyskie. Free beer is always appreciated so it won't matter too much.

    I like Aldi's cheap French beer Brasserie - €5 for 10 250ml stubbies.

None would come in as 'cheap'; all are premium priced.

Aldi's Carlsberg knockoff is (Karlskrone) is more than passable, though I think its only in bottles though which may be bad for a student party - as is Tyskie and Aldi stubbies.

Cans wise - Prazsky is dirt cheap and fairly well known/accepted.

Of the 'own brand' stuff I would agree ALDI is best option.

But, I am wondering though if 20yos might be a bit snobbier than an older generation and sticking to brands might be wiser...

Getting trays in dunnes of branded lager and cider and setting up chain of vouchers week on week could work out same price or cheaper.

Would people not bring their own booze?
When I was 20 no one expected free beer at a party thrown by a peer.

I think Orchard thieves is horrendous stuff, a few people I know would say the same. It is more like an alcopop.

I think bulmers would be the safer bet if it can be got cheap, it was down to €1 a can recently. I would imagine those who drink orchards would happily drink a bulmers instead, but not the other way around.

Heineken also dips down around 1euro a can or less these days.

As above I would expect people to bring there own. Even if I am told not to bring any and that there will be plenty there I will also bring some.

I make no comment on how the stuff tastes, but I will observe that Alcopop cider might be a big hit at a party of 20 year olds though...

The sales of Orchard Thieves, and the fact that Bulmers sales are sliding and they launched Outcider in response suggests there is a market there for sweeter cider.
