    Hi Folks,

Basically my job got the better of me and doing the work of two people left me with crippling anxiety and I have to call in sick Friday. There's no hope in hell of me going back Monday morning and I was wondering how long I can take due to stress/panic disorder.

I've a doctors appointment Monday morning. If for example get gives me a few weeks certified sick leave. Do you then go to the social welfare?

    Thanks in advance!

Been there. The doctor can certify you for sick leave, you're on illness benefit/prsi kicking in but it's the same figure as the dole/jobseekers. (Or it was then, some one may correct me if things have changed)
You will have to drop a cert from your doctor each week to welfare, a slightly different one for your last week. They can't give you certs for multiple weeks.
You won't get anything from social for the first week.

I'm sure the doctor will give you the best direction in how to deal with it. Mindfulness helped me I have to say, exercise, diet all help too... As does just doing the hours your paid for.

So I'll have to go to the doctor every week spending 50 quid a pop?:eek::eek:

No. You only pay 50 if you need to see the doctor again. If you are just picking up another cert it should only be 25ish.

Stress related leave can be a difficult one depending on the employer, as we all get stressed.

Depends on your doctor, some doctors just charge a tenner for a repeat cert.

Yep sorry, should have mentioned that! Not a proper visit, just lifting the cert. Apologies for the shock! In fairness it's a bit of a pain having to do it as he agreed in the initial visit I should take 2months and assess then. (I'd creaked earlier in the year too so I'd recommend taking the time to properly address it) stress can affect a lot more than your head!
Definitely wasn't charged 25 a cert though. Another visit before the final cert though.

I posted them in each week so I wouldn’t have to face them. I was out of work for 5 months.

No the certs are for SW, dr should give you a letter to say you'll be out sick for X amount of time, that's the one you need for work. And you don't have to drop it in. Depending on your employer you could post it, email it or just bring it when you go back.

Actually I think it depends on how you get paid. If you just get your full pay the certs need to go to work. But you may have to claim yourself

When you ask the doctor for a s.w cert also ask for a cert to cover work. You can post the cert into work. Depending on where you work you may be asked to go to a company doctor.

Possibly follow the above, chat to your employer/see your contract to know if they want them. Safer having the certs for them.
Mine didn't care... But wasn't exactly good with paper trails

Just so the OP knows you don't get paid for the first 6 days.
    They're called "waiting days".
