Got scammed by fake landlord

    Hi all,

So I did something very stupid. I was looking for accommodation online and came across a room in an owner occupied house. Nice house, reasonable price (not obviously a scam) so I contacted the landlord about arranging a viewing. We arranged a time and he asked for a copy of my id. So stupidly i sent him a picture of my passport. I then find out this is a scam.

I realize what I did was very stupid and have learned my lesson, but I'm wondering what I should do about the scammer having my details.

Contact the passport office and/or the gardai.

Check is the ad still on line and get a screenshot.

Thank you. I'll contact them on Monday. The ad is no longer online but I have the email exchange.

    Any other advice?

you might be able to get their IP address from the email they sent- likely untraceable but you never know. It would be worth noting it and bringing it with you to the station.

I looked up the IP address. He seems to be quite a prolific scammer based out of the US.
