Car had a fail for corrosion on the rear brake dust shield. I have ordered a set for the rear. Is it a handy enough fix? will it involve removing the Caliper and disc? Will I need a special tool if so?

    Its an 2005 1.6 102hp vw touran

Caliper and disc have to come off to fit the rear. Not sure but I think the hub also has to be removed.

Where did you order them? They're only about €15 from the dealer and they'd have them in stock.

Just be thankful is not a Nissan X Trail!
Dust covers are 110 euro each plus 2 new rear bearings at over 50 euro each, plus labour.
Seized fittings etc pushed the bill to over 800 euro....

Kia ceed or hyundai i30 are 150 euro a side and guaranteed to have stuck abs sensor plus the headache of entire brake and hub removal and re setting up the handbrake inside the disc etc.... Any they are made of paper :pac:

At least an i30 is worth more than the job cost!
A 2005 petrol auto X Trail is the red headed orphan of the car sales world :D

Never tried the dealer as last time i needed a part off them (breather pipe) they charged me 70 euro. I ordered from autodoc in the uk. Cost me 30 euro for both and delivery.

Changed two on the rear of an Accord last night, 125 each , could only be got from Honda , a bit awkward as the handbrake drum assembly is inside the disc, about an hour each side, with the car on a lift. All ok for NCT otherwise, with 248 k miles so not complaining

Some of those prices are crazy money. I had a quick look at mine and even though there is corrosion it's not bad. It's not flaking to pieces or anything
