Ankle injuries cause?

Hi, I am an on and off gym goer. The last year I have found myself getting injuries very regularly which stops my running. It is usually my ankle but sometimes knee or toe.
Tonight I got back in the gym after weeks of being away and instantly could feel a twinge in my ankle.
Is there anything I should be looking at to prevent this?

I am wondering if my shoes are the problem. They are asics gel contend 4.
    Any advise is welcome.

Unless someone assesses you in person, you won't know the reason.

    It could be numerous reasons.

If you want a recommendation on a physio, give the general area you're in and there may be people able to give a recommendation.

Thanks. I might look into a physio assessment. I'm mad to get back into it
