2009 Nissan Qashqai rear indicator light and brake flashing

    Hi Guys

Hope some could help fix me with this issue.
2009 Nissan Qashqai rear indicator and brake light flashing fast and together on passenger side. This happens only when lights are on. When lights(headlight) are off everything is normal.
I have checked the ground wire and removed bolt behind the light and sanded down the contact to make sure its making ground this did not fix the issue.
I was then about to go at taking off the light and checking connection when I see to my shock the bolts have been over tightened and has shattered the plastic that holds them in place also part of the bottom was broken. This has been done i guess by previous owner when installing a reverse sensor kit as its wired into that side.
So it looks as though if i take bolts off this will not go back together again.
What are my options to fix both of these issues.
    See picture

    Thanks

Some flat washers should solve the bolt issue.

You more than likely have a bad earth or there’s moisture in the unit.

I was thinking that washers might do but will this fit back correctly if i do that. I will have to get some to try that just dont want to take it off until i have something as its the wife's car would never hear the end of it if i could not get it back on.

They should be ok once they’re thin enough. There’s a good chance the unit will crack further though.

You could always grind the washers thickness down a bit. I've done it before

Just in the earthing issue. I had the exact same problem in the rear passenger unit. I tried the same with sanding under the earth strap but it didn’t solve it either.

A replacement bulb holder / cluster fixed my issue. It seemed like the indicator bulb holder had a bad connection and it was using the path of least resistance through the rear tail light for an earth causing it to flash / dim along with the indicator.

Anyway, a replacement bulb holder / cluster from a scrqpyard sorted it for me

Probably no harm to change it either way given the damage

Thanks all looks like I could fix both problems in one if i get a replacement off scrap yard. Will ring tomorrow some local. Any idea what they cost seen new online for between 75 to 120.

If you just want the bulb holder to sort the earth fault, 20-25 quid from a scrqpyard. If it’s both the holder and the actual full lense unit plus holder I would expect 80-100 quid for a decent condition unit.

Just have a good look at the bulb holder before you take it and make sure there is no corrosion on it and the bulb fits snug otherwise you might still have a problem.

    Hope this helps.

I found new one on ebay for 79 with bulb holder and its says valeo make shipped from uk. Checked reviews for the same and at least 4 positive reviews on it so took a chance.
Most scrap dealers where out of stock near me and the ones far would need to be shipped started at 59 to 65 for same so for extra i can get new.
So ordered now saying either Friday or Tuesday for delivery.
Will update with who i used and how it works out once received and tested.
Thanks for help yet again all.

Glad you got sorted. It’s very satisfying fixing it yourself.

I had the same issue and this thread helped fix it, so thanks!

I also have another issue that happened at the same time though - the reverse lights would only come on intermittently and now not at all, even though the new bulb holder was fitted. There is a tiny bit of corrosion on one of the sockets on the wiring loom that comes from the car into the back of the bulb holder - could this be connected? e.g. does that connector feed into the reverse light cabling in any way?

    TIA

Yes rust and green mouldy connections been small need all the surface area or issues will happen.

Does that car have 1 or 2 reverse lights as might be reverse light switch in gearbox if 12v is not coming back to your lamp.
