VRT rebate

Hi, can anyone confirm what is required to process a VRT rebate.

The revenue website is slightly confusing.

Do you need to contact the revenue / complete a form before making an appointment at an NCT centre? I don’t want to turn up at the NCT appointment without the correct paperwork etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sell a car outside the state?

Yes, to the U.K. I did it almost 10 years ago and I can’t remember what the exact process was, and the revenue website is not very clear.

Are you trying to claim VRT back from the car you sold 10 years ago?

The scheme is only out since 2013 though.

    1. Book a vrt refund appointment with ncts
    2. Attend appointment with car and logbook
    3. Export car
    4. Fill out relevant forms with required documentation - usually need proof of registration in foreign country to prove it has been exported

    Thank you.

Thanks for the other replies too. It wasn't quite 10 years but defo before 2013.

@hi_im_fil - do I need to have any 'revenue or rebate' forms with me when I arrive at the NCT centre.

I presume not, as they don't list it here - https://www.revenue.ie/en/importing-vehicles-duty-free-allowances/guide-to-vrt/export-repayment-scheme/export-process.aspx

    Thanks again for your help.

It’s been a while since I did it but I only had the car and logbook for the ncts inspection. The forms are filled out at a later stage.
