The flaw in the 'Report Posts' system

This is meant to be lighthearted, mods, not a serious feedback issue.

I've reported a lot of posts in the last few days. And now I just feel like a total snitch. I'm paranoid now that I'm just being a pest.

I know mods encourage reporting of posts but after a while you think "Am I just being an irritant now?".

Anyone else feel that way?

Personally, I think you shouldn't invest so much personal mental investment in boards or any other social media type thing.

As a kinda aside, I'm complete against text based discussions being treated in the same way as if they happened in 'real life', in physical life, non cyber life. It's absolutely ridiculous to me that 'death threats' and the like are taken as if they are real and and I think to prosecute such things is a disastrous waste of public time money and energy. The internet is never going to be nice when we are all hiding behind a screen. Lets just accept that because that is the way it is.

I would suggest that anyone who uses social media who if feeling like it's more trouble than it's worth, or is being bullied, or whatever - just delete your account. You don't need it, we survived this long without it and it's clear that now we've had it for the time we've had it that the benefits of it are not particularly as valuable as we first though.

I rarely bother, not because "am nae a grass" (I absolutely am a grass, and have got plenty of cunts kicked off of that Twitter), but because more often than not, the mods on here don't do fuck all.

I thought this would be about the way that all mods have access to all reported posts and not just the reported posts from the fora they mod. So if an After Hours mod gets a card in the soccer forum they can just scoot on over to the reported posts forum and see who reported them. That’s a bit of a flaw.

Just had another look - he's gone bonkers - another 78 reported posts today and at this rate another 6 months and he'll be up to no 2

I would call it a weakness rather than a flaw. We've made it very clear in the reported post forum that mods should not use any information gleaned from there in respect of forums they have no responsibility for.

Obviously it's something we can't control, certainly with the current set-up. However if any user has evidence of a mod misusing such information, or feels a mod has "retaliated" in any way, please contact a relevant CMod to discuss your concerns further.

Ultimately it may be the word of a mod versus the word of a user, but ecertainlyqually if we see a mod being subject to a variety of such claims it would warrant further investigation at both CMod and Admin level
