FIRST "PROFESSIONAL" PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOT

I'm trying to get my first photography shoot together and start putting together a portfolio of my work.

I have sourced the gear to do it, the location, and the subject/theme of the shoot.

I am having trouble trying to get models, amateur or otherwise to agree to be in it. I need 2/3 men and 2/3 women to participate. As it's my first shoot and funds are a quite low I will need them to do it unpaid.

I have said that I am willing to let them use any shots taken for their own portfolios and willing to do them up some headshots etc but I want to retain the copyright on the pics and will be watermarking the shots (which i assume is standard practice)

Has anyone any tips or hints as to how I will get anyone to get on board with the shoot?

Have you anything available at the moment to showcase your photographic skills? I'd say it'd be pretty difficult to get up to 6 people on board to do a shoot in exchange for portfolio shots if they haven't got the foggiest idea how they'll turn out, what your style is like, etc etc.

I have a few shots I took while outdoors. never done anything professional before. What I have shot so far is mostly still life, some macro and some landscape photography.

I initially asked a couple friends if they would do it but they shy'd away from it

Try starting with 1 person and work with that rather than 6 people. It'll come together a lot easier. If the results are solid, you'll probably get 2 people keen next time.
