Should I be worried if ownership hasn't changed on a car sold?

A few weeks ago I arranged for the destruction of my old car which failed the NCT from a rust issue that wasn't worth fixing with my mechanic to a neighbouring scrapyard. I signed the logbook and was expecting to get a destruction cert back so I could claim a tax refund.
A week later the mechanic contacted me to say he knew a man on a farm who wanted a cheap car to use only his lands and since it was in perfect working order it'd be a better use to give it to him. I agreed and he compensated me for the loss of tax with a small bit extra.
It seems fine but I noticed today on motortax.ie that no change of ownership has gone through despite the logbook supposedly being sent away. Should I be concerned by this? I don't know this man on a farm or what he's likely to do with it but would I be in some way responsible if the car was to wind up being abandoned in a forest or something? :pac:

Ask the mechanic you sold it to what's the story. You need to get the car registration out of your name.

If you're still down as the registered owner and have no paperwork to backup your claim of having gotten rid of the car then yes you could (in theory).

And that's assuming yer man will actually only use it on the farm, otherwise you're talking toll payments, speeding tickets, parking tickets...

I'd be onto that mechanic quick smart and make sure that the transfer is done properly

My guess is that because the farmer is planning to use it on his land that he or the mechanic probably didn't bother with the change of ownership process. Problem is that according to Shannon that car is still in the OP's name so any road traffic offenses will go back to the OP as the most recent registered owner.

OP really should have insisted on getting the new owner to fill in the change of ownership section and sent it off to Shannon to be updated once it was decided that the car wasn't been scrapped. If the new owner wants to just use it on their land, that's their business but the car registration should be transferred to them and then they can do what they like with it.
