78 code on my certificate of competency

    Hi,

I just passed my driving test today in a manual car, hired from my driving instructor.

I just noticed there's a '78' code underneath where it says: 'The following vehicle restriction(s) shall apply.' What does this mean? Does this mean I can only drive in automatic?

What do you mean "I just noticed there's a '78' code underneath" exactly?

The bottom of the cert of competency lists all possible restrictions and the tester is meant to tick on the boxes of which ones apply.

If there is indeed a tick on the '78' box, you are restricted to driving automatic cars. If this is the case, you'll have to get this fixed.

There's no tick on the 78 box. Just has the 78 box displaying.

It's a standard form for all tests, vehicles and drivers. No ticks means no restrictions.

Here's how it looks anyway. Not sure if the '78' at the top next to the B8239 means anything?

That looks just like a coincidence. If it was restricted it would be marked down on the bottom

Precisely. It's just a coincidence- the top number is just the certificate number so the NDLS can identify that the OP passed certain categories at a certain time.

Congrats to the OP on passing the test!

Thanks guys! Was just a bit paranoid as this was my third attempt at the test and didn't want to go through the whole thing all over again for a manual :) Just also out of curiosity, is there any significance to the word 'eighteen' in brackets beside the date at the bottom right?

Edit: Nevermind, realised the 18 is to do with the year :)

Third time's the charm! No, it's just a reiteration of the test year because the cert will expire in two years if you don't exchange it for a full licence. If you're personal details are correct, it's a perfectly normal cert of comp for a manual, unrestricted 'B' licence.
