Thinking of doing Thailand solo for 2-3 months with a mild disability. What itinerary

    Hi

I'm giving strong consideration of doing 2-3 months in Thailand from the end of May as it's always being at the top of my travel bucket list. I have a mild enough disability. I can walk, I can get around, but I just want to check that it's easy enough to do Thailand with this solo? A drunk ex colleague mentioned one night that I'd find some of it difficult but he can sometimes talk a lot of nonsense when he's had a few ;) He said something about "finding good budget hotels and doing organised day excursions from them" to make my life easier. Any feedback on this would be great.

    Some questions:

    1) Itinerary wise (all flights) I'm thinking;

    Bangkok for 3-4 nights

Onto Phuket then for maybe a week or two. After that I'm wide open to suggestions.

What is best from there? I'm looking for amazing (and not too hard to get around) beaches, some nightlife but nothing as mental as the Full Moon parties. Some great food, sights etc.
Is Khao San road basically the West End of Ibiza on steroids? ;) Or is it a must see? For a night or two anyway

    2) Do I need a Visa for staying in Thailand for more than a month?

    3) How is the weather from June to late August? I think I'll avoid the heavy rain season during this time.

    4) How much to budget for a month?

I read somewhere that on a really tight budget and in the cheapest accommodation that a month in Thailand could cost just $1,000. Im not sure I want to go too cheap on accommodation. Maybe somewhere in the middle (or just below that) price range wise.

    5) I won't be backpacking as such. I'll have 2 large suitcases with me as I've been working overseas for a year now. I'd like to keep this in mind when getting from airports to hotels and to another airport for the next island. For this reason I can't see me doing any of the sleeper trains anywhere. Dragging them onto boats for another island is probably out too.

    6) Best hotels/accommodation?

When you recommend your itinerary it'd be very useful if you mentioned where you stayed and for roughly how much too.

    7) Anything mental to be weary of? I'd be fairly street smart and I hear the crime rate in Thailand is very low. That said, anywhere (obvious dark alleys aside) I should avoid?

I probably have more questions this week, but any help on those would be a great start.

    Cheers

    PS
I'd like to stay as close to the heart of all things when choosing accommodation on the islands. If you could keep that in mind with accommodation recommendations.

    Thanks

Plenty of time in Bangkok imo. Never made it to Phuket so can't comment, if you want to stay away from crazy stay away from Pattaya, Ibiza on coke, roids and a million shots of sometching dangerous. Khao San Rd is mad but manageable.

I think north of Bangkok is cool, try gooogling Pi.

    2) Do I need a Visa for staying in Thailand for more than a month?

If I remember correctly you do but you can get it on arrival. It's a 3 month one for around 50usd. Bring usd!

    3) How is the weather from June to late August? I think I'll avoid the heavy rain season during this time.

I got a lot of rain particularly around the islands last July.

    4) How much to budget for a month?

Really depends on you. What you will eat and find acceptable to sleep in.

I'd get rid of the suitcases, send them home and just have a backpack. Honestly it will make your trip a lot more enjoyable.
    6) Best hotels/accommodation?

When you recommend your itinerary it'd be very useful if you mentioned where you stayed and for roughly how much too.

Booking.com gives you ratings so you can see what you're getting yourself in for, I'd recommend it.

    7) Anything mental to be weary of? I'd be fairly street smart and I hear the crime rate in Thailand is very low. That said, anywhere (obvious dark alleys aside) I should avoid?

Just be vigilant as with anywhere.

    Hope that helps a little.

Thanks Shane. I'll have a more in depth read of that later and reply fully then
