5w-30 or 5w-40 for 9-5 2.0t petrol?

First oil change for me with my 2006 9-5 2.0t petrol (not bio) estate.

Should I be using 5w-30 or 5w-40? Saab doesn't seem to have oil codes like e.g. BMW-LL01.

Is there anything in the owner's manual? These engines are known for having a problem with oil sludge (which can write off the engine) so I'd definitely be taking a lot of care to make sure the correct oil is used (and also make sure it's changed pretty often).

Actually that's precisely why I wanted to verify. I need to dig out the manual.

That was only the earlier engines up to about 04. 05 onwards were fine with no sludge issues.

They changed the crankcase ventilation system after 2003 and recommend a fully synthetic oil to solved the sludge problem.

Good to know, thanks. Always thought it was just that general series of engines, and that confirms what I thought - it was down to the design of the PCV which caused the sludge buildup.

Dexos2 or LL-A-025 and I would go for the 5W30 for the low pressure engine.
