    Hi all,

Iv been lurking on boards for a while.
Im in the market for a Tudor Pelagos either ETA or in-house in black. Blue is fantastic looking but I don't think it be as versatile.

Is anyone selling one or know someone that is selling a nice used example?

What do you think of this watch?
I was also considering a Rolex Explorer but the Pelagos I catching my eye more.

Wearing one on my wrist as I type (not for sale unfortunately!)

I love it - this watch has become my daily wearer (though my Speedmaster moonphase gives it a run for the money in terms of time shared on the wrist).

I went with ETA as actually I feel that this ties in with the Tudor heritage better, I also want cheaper servicing costs when the time comes.

I had a blue Borealis sea-hawk (Pelagos homage) and sold it to get the Pelagos (funnily to someone who had a black Pelagos already and was using the sea-hawk to scratch his blue Pelagos itch).

I got it around 2100 in as new condition second hand from a watchuseek seller. I pretty much love everything about the watch - the hands, the date complication, the extra bezel click and the innovative spring-loaded clasp. For me it's a definite keeper and I while I do use it as a tool watch (been diving with it) I think it isn't out of place on a suit either.

Basically - I love the watch - it might be my favourite in my collection - either this one or the Speedmaster.

And while the in-house movement brings with it many advantages - I prefer the symmetry of the ETA version (they removed the date lume indice on the in-house version), and the fact that only 2 lines of text are on the bottom of the dial vs the 5 lines (some people see an oak/apple tree on the dial :D ).

    edit:
do you see the tree? :D

And here's a photo of the ETA version - I honestly prefer the dial layout better on this version - the price between the two is roughly similar so I'm sure some people would prefer to get an in-house movement with the silicon(?) hairspring and longer power reserve. I've got plenty of other watches with in-house movements so it doesn't hold much appeal to me personally.

The older version with the extra date lume indice and less text:

    ETA looks better alright!

And certainly I don't intend to disparage anyone for choosing the MT5612 version - extra power reserve, in-house movement cachet etc. And I'm sure I could learn to live with the new dial - but for me why make the compromise?

Now if the new version had that Tag developed oscillator I'm sure I could get used to the lesser dial for the huge leap in mechanical accuracy - but for the marginal gains and increased servicing cost I wasn't tempted even when I could have gotten either version for a similar price.

The only reason I would get the MT5612 version was if I "needed" the blue or LHD version. As I'm a rightie and prefer the toolish-ness of the black dial it was a clear choice for me.

Oh and for me - my ETA2824 is running well within COSC specs in actual use - I think around 2s/d deviation - so there was no need (in my personal case) for the extra two lines of text on the dial ;)

And it's just a little strange to see the watch naming itself on the dial - I'm not sure any other watch of mine does that - I don't think anyone would mistake the Pelagos for a north face or Rolex explorer.

As you can tell I'm still in awe at the new Tag developed movement (which LVMH gave to Zenith - the Tag people must be fuming!):

There's equally the argument that why pay 2100+ for an ETA2824 diver? Well a watch is greater than its movement and while I'm sure Steinharts offer great value for money or say a Borealis Sea-hawk is fantastic value with many of the same design elements - I only have one watch wearing wrist...so I'm willing to pay more to wear the watch I like :)

Random fact for the day - "Tudor" in Chinese sounds very similar to "potatoes" - my wife and I both call it my potato watch :D

Looking at the photos, I'm trying to remember why I went for the black bay over the pelagos.

    the innovative spring-loaded clasp

I thought the clasp was brilliant when I tried it on. And unlike most dive complications, actually useful day-to-day.

I'm heading to Japan in 2 weeks for 2 weeks I wonder would there be good used Tudors out there?

From researching (google/YouTube)there seems to be lots of shops with good used Seiko.

I want to pick up a few nice JDM Seiko, citizen and g-shock when I'm out there. I have put about €1000 in my budget for 3 JDM models.

Well, that's all very well, but you'll need to provide full written reports, with all relevant details, from prevailing winds, to refreshment options and of course, footwear. And pictures, of the watches preferably. Lots of pictures.

    You've been warned!

    ;)

You specifically didn't want a date feature perhaps? :P
