Just wondering what ration/supplements people find best and if some breeds do better on some types of food than others

I have a small group thats a mix of HEX and LMX bullocks round the 24 month mark of forage turnip and silage about three weeks now and I was supplementing them with a bit of high maize beef finisher ration.....Some of the HEX seem to be responding better...and not the butty sorts quite well proportioned/shaped HEXs but the LMX don't seem to be filling out as well (I was thinking that its just they may still be growing so will fill out slower)....still looking good/healthy etc just not as well filled out

Thing is I seen one of them dunging and they don't seem to be digesting the maize bits.......can still clearly be seen so presumably they are not getting much benefit from the bits they are not digesting?.....They can find other sources of fibre that don't cost as much:D then again I thought maize had very little fibre?

Would i be better going with something else in future?...whats the most cost effective way to speed up the process of putting on flesh when they are at grass at that age?...would a shake of rolled barley be as good as anything?
