Therai looks to see if there's a way around the herd.

Perception check for other predators (raven on shoulder)

If none, Retula grabs a handful of grass and munches on it in a very unthreatening manner

The herd can be avoided by either a swim through the swamp to the right, or by going around them through slightly denser jungle to the left.

THerai turns to the heavily armoured Dwarves "Can you swim in all that?"

"Slowly, but yes we can, would appreciate any magical assistance on offer though" Tardin says looking at the magic users.

Retula stops chewing grass and looks for a good sturdy tree on the other side of the river. Or a very weak looking one. And also guestimates how wide the river is.

"The best I could do is gently blow you"

Therai turn to Mags and Retula "Fancy a swim or a trek through dense jungle?"

OOC: Is there a trail beyond the dinos?

There are a good few trees which if felled could span the river. Some are almost forty meters tall.

Four trails lie on the opposite of the clearing to the dinosaurs. One of which contains the ruined cobblestones of an ancient road.

So the river is nearly 40m wide?
And are these trees on both sides?

"There's signs of civilisation over there. Maybe a loud enough noise would cause a stampede away from us"

The swamp river is about 30m wide, looking across Retula can see trees of a similar height on both sides.

Retula looks at the width of the tree trunk. She looks at her dagger. "How long do dwarves live?"

Ooc : I can guidance everyone one at a time for swims. We don't know how deep it is I suppose. Not sure minor illusion makes enough noise to startle, not does a 5 foot trex. Can't target a tree with my offensive spells. Too wide to thorn whip drag tree trunks across. Anyone any thoughts?

Also, swamp! I kept saying river. Sorry!

OOC: I was thinking of thunderclap to make the noise. If that's not enough then shatter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Ooc : think that's in Mags' bag :) also thanks for not reminding me that you suggested I take bonfire this level :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭Evade

OOC: I can do both of those

    Retula turns to her bird.
"Look, little dude - you know and I know I'm not much off a swimmer, so here's what we're going to do. You stand at the base of that tree, m'kay? I'm going to fire some blasts at you and stuff, and like if I miss, the tree will come down and we can make a bridge or a raft or something, but here's the geeeeenius part. If I hit you, and you die, you know the way that makes me kinda lucky if I try to get revenge on the guy who murked you? That guy is me! So any test I take against myself, I'll get lucky! So, like, if I throw myself into that swamp and try to swim, I'll be a better swimmer! I mean that makes sense, right? Hey! Hetyaro! GET BACK HERE!"

    She turns to Therai.

"Ok, plan A just chickened out. I like your idea - let's scare the giant cow-lizards. Want me to shoot one of the baby ones? I mean, one that looks sick or runty - I'm not some kind of monster"

"Only if the noise doesn't scare them" Therai addresses the whole group "Cover your ears" then stands clear of them, and thunderclaps.

    KRAA-KOOOOM!

OOC: Everything within 100 feet should have heard that.

The dwarves cover their ears and then the massive bang echoes across the clearing.

Some of the adult hadrosaurus immediatley turn their heads and bellow at the rest of the herd. The begin to move out of the clearing with the larger adults watching in the direction of the bang.

Eventually the whole herd has moved out of the clearing.

    "nicely done, Diablo!"

Retula proceeds through the clearing cautiously, with her raven doing a flyby of the 4 exits - noticeable features, signs of use, etc.

Three of the paths are simply dirt paths that run into the jungle, heading in roughly similar directions.

One however is an old paved road, with the cobbles damaged from years of neglect and the odd statue or two visible in the distance as it continues into the jungle.

Ooc : any of them headed in the general direction of the sea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭Evade

"The paved path should lead somewhere, a village maybe?"

Projecting the paths forward from where they seem to be heading, all of them go to the sea.

"Shwah! Maybe a bajillion years ago, like look at the state of it! Still we might make better time in it, and it'd be nice for someone else to take the blame next time we get lost. All the paths go our way anyhows"

(Ooc : so off we go, percepting for threats and traps and looking at the statues)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭Evade

Therai starts toward the paved path and says to Retula "Whatever happens is on me. Anyway how bad could it be? Giant ant nest again?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Wandering down the path one of the dwarves wanders up to a statue.

"Fine craftsmanship, the stone isn't purified or handled to our standards nor is the form of the sculpture as fine as Elven work, but I don't recall a mannish sculpture of such quality"

The other dwarves gather and agree on her assessment.

Continuing on the road, around dusk, the jungle gives way to coniferous forest, with a temperate climate. The sudden rapid change in temperature comes as a relief to the dwarves.

After following the road until night fall, they can see the lights of a village head, about two hours away.

"I think we should press on to that village"

"This road is trashed, man, there's some real gnarly old goat stuff and the end of it - could be like ancient progenitor dino ants. Or worse - tree huggers!

We're going to get to the end of this pothole-ridden mess and there's gonna be some ridiculous stuck-up old-blood silver-spoon tower-festooned circus full of twig thin unicorn-jockies who spend their endless days ha-ha-haing about the follies if mortals and think not dying is the same thing as living.

Bet we'll score drummer boy some la-lah leaf there though. Those tools are always out of their gourds, my friend t'Clsee told me she knew a guy who once dated this skank who rolled with high elves and it was nothing but high quality weed and contemplating all the things he was going to but never got around to doing to her I mean when they say those guys can do it for hours and hours really most of it is just talk y'know like blah-blah-blah playing with their own balls looking out a window and coming up with 3 new words for wind. Anyway, yeah. Or maybe dwarves? Does this road look dwsrven? HEY TARDIN! This road one of yours?"

Edit : crap, shouldn't have stopped to make breakfast. Yes! Village!
