Hi there. I am going spreading fertilizer on 40 acres this week, thinking of spreading 18/6/12. It is good/average land, how many bags per acre will I put out

    Anything out yet?
Soil samples be your best bet first.
    2 bags of 18-6-12 for a start.
    Little and often

What are you going using it for , grazing, silage ? Whats the bedrock like is it limestone, shale ... ie pH ? 18/6/12 is the norm in most parts but without soil tests it may or may not be the best choice. What are your neighbors using etc

You could also use cut sward on the grazing, it's better value for money than the grazing blends.

There's not enough phosphorous in cut sward, might as well go with urea or CAN

At that stocking rate you'd need 1 - 1.5 bags CAN/acre per month. good quality grassland is supposed to be able to carry one ton of cattle to the acre in a ''normal'' May, so you must be at that level........you reduce it as the year goes on as silage aftergrass becomes available.....
For the year that's in it, you probably are overstocked

    Thanks for that
If the indexes were low would you use a compound instead?
