DIY container home. All ideas welcome?

Hi all and thanks for having a look. Im looking at building a container home as a over flow for visiting family /friends. It would be a single bedroom but might have 3 guests.
The reason for picking a container been i have access to welding and cutting material. I also no where to pick up windows and doors.
Closed cell spray foam seems the way to go for insulation but is expensive. 2500euros + for all sides
I was thinking of insulating walls with insulated plasterboard. insulating the outside of the roof . Any ideas welcome. If i cant get a good reasonably priced high cube insulate under the under the floor.
The idea at the moment is 60mm on the wall and floor and 100mm on roof. Use vents behind the insulation to conbat condinsation. Along with condinsation paint for the top 6 inches of the walls and ceiling.
Any info ye might have on insulation condensation would good. Thanks
I also would like a stove so ventilation for me and it would also have to be factored in.

IMO forget about it. Too much hassle. Buy a caravan. Neater looking etc & you get to use itfor holidays! As its only for visiting relatives & not permanent.

Best of luck with it. Container's being used for anything other than containers seems to get shot down here a lot of the time.
There's plenty of other threads dealing with them if you can navigate the search system on boards.

Thanks tradesman, for your opinion. A caravan is not for me. This is to pass the time, a project.

I did look up the tiny houses before and there again. Thanks for putting me on to its. I have all the services beside me so its set out will be tictated by them.
The containers home would be in sligo. There is lots a moisture in the air there. With little use, i dont want dampness creeping in. Combating that in the best way possible is the main info im after.
I would like to Use closed cell spray foam on the outside and use bamboo as cladding. looks amazing. Sice that would cost about 6000 I'll be giving it a miss. At least for the time been.

I have looked up a few on the site and and see they get shot down alright. Still havent found anything on how much ventilation i would need for 3 people and a fire, Or what size vents would best suit the problem. Ill keep looking or find a helpful reader. lol Thanks in advance. your the bestest.

There's one in Irishtown that sandblasted the paint off and then it's left with a protective rust coating after a while. Not to everyones taste but I love it.

Adding a pitched roof will take the look of a container off of it, that is a must for me.

I was thinking of the roof like that. Smarten it up a bit alright. Its the cross over from external insulation to internal insulation I be worried about. Think I read somewhere its something like 6 inches the roof should also be insulated down the wall, with the internal wall insulated to the roof.

A really sharp pitched roof could be an extra sleep space.
It would mean blending the roof into the internal space of container though.

In sligo. loI Nice idea for a nice climate.
No loft in my drawings. It will most lightly be a felt on roof, due to cost.

I've actually read all of these and basically done all the research that I can do online but hoping there will be someone on here with first hand experience of obtaining planning permission and building these in Ireland (the planning permission being the primary concern).

Yes and one of our lads were inspecting. Permission granted for 3 stories but had to stop at 2 due to cost. He could have built a traditional house for cheaper and finished it but the owner wanted something different.

Also, no engineer would sign off on used containers for structural reasons so brand new containers had to be purchased.

The idea of getting used containers and chopping them up and bodging them on site doesn't appeal to me much,
But I do like the idea of factory built mass produced units that can be moved on the back of a truck and lifted into place, hooked up and used,

It makes no sense to manufacture a steel structure for one purpose and then immediately chop it to bits and reinforce it to make something else with completely different structural requirements.

But I love the idea of modular de-mountable buildings, it's one way to for buildings to change to suit the evolving needs of their occupants.

He left it in such a way that he could extend when ready.
I think he's working on a third storie at the moment.

I like the idea of factory built standard size homes, you could go up to 14 feet wide, and 45 / 50 foot long units, externally insulated them,
... Could be made in a factory, transported in on the back of an artic, and installed really quickly in any combination of sizes, without hacking up containers
