    Hi All
Trying to figure out what heat load our new build will have so we can figure out what heating system if any is needed.
Airtightness is around 1 air change per hour, walls .12 etc
The thing is that it seems to me that the only way to figure out the heat load properly is the passive house software?
When I ask around everyone in the industry seems to want to over spec the heating system like crazy.
Am I right in thinking the the prelim BER isnt really fir for purpose for well insulated, airtight houses?
If the passive house software is the only way any idea on anyone in this country that will run the house through it without being a passive house architect who is running the whole project.
any help would be much appreciated as I am really confused
    Thanks
    Liam

I think you're right and the passive House software PHPP is the best (not the only but best) way to get an accurate indication of the heating demand. A lot of energy consultants will fill it out for you. Without me listing names which could be seen as boards as advertising the easiest way to find some would be to go the the passive House magazine website www.passivehouseplus.ie and look at the details on the articles on houses or refurbishments as they list all the consultants.

I only know one or two but never used them and I bought the software and did it myself for my own house. It took some learning and wouldn't recommend it unless you're in the building industry and have a lot of time.
