KNIS Unblocking / Laying Duct for FTTH

We've been getting Eir FTTH installed for the last couple of months :'(

We've got to a point now where the cable is outside the house, bu the old telephone line duct is blocked.

Eir have offered us a service from KNIS, where the'y will unblock our current duct or dig us a new one, (Price is the same which ever solution works for them, we pay €360)

I reluctantly decided to accept this offer, on acceptance we are emailed and advised on cost and some details.

    One of those details states:

"the technician will not complete works where completion would involve cutting into asphalt, or where work is required that would cut or undermine any internal surfaces at a customer’s premises.  If either of these scenarios present, the KNIS team will advise you of the options available to you."

If a new duct is needed, then there will be a tarmac driveway between the house and the path the duct will have to take.

    Has anyone used this service?

What options are available when the job involve cutting into asphalt?

Any of the ducting on your premises is essentially your problem.

OpenEIR nor KN normally take care of that. You need to make sure, that you have an unblocked duct preferable with a draw-string ready to go, if you want to avoid delays.

That's just the lay of the land.

400 EUR for ducting is not uncommon. Someone I know had to fork that out recently because no ducting ever was brought into his house.

There is the option of getting the connection overhead, but only if your house is within 50m of the drop point.

Yes kn do for rare cases offer the service to do this work for you to help speed up the install.
This is civil work and nothing to do with the technician who runs the fibre into your house and installs the modem
Generally if a technician comes out he will examine the site he will try to rod the duct. Should no duct be present or blocked or no poles the job will change nature he cannot complete his job so the customer will be informed that the job is failed and outline the reasons why then he will conduct a survey if it needs public poles or public ducting he will write that in and send it off to the civils arm of the company.
If it's on the customers property where the issue arises it is the customers issue.
generally the customer is advised to remedy the issue or hire a civil contractor to do work as this is not a fault with the network but a fault that lies with the customer. In special cases kn offer their services to do that civil work for the customer if they customer hasn't the first idea of how to shop around and hire a civil contractor.
