    Formerly the Boyne 10k,

Anyone running it this year ? Bank Holiday weekend Sunday 6th May.

Great event in fairness, one of the better 10ks around, and lets not forget the hill climb on the turn for home.

Thouroughly enjoyed this 10k last year. There was some constestion as you start, but rest was all good, nice hill at 7k and a great fast and noisy finish (the DCM finish reminded of Boyne 10k finish). Great looking top as well.

I was better prepared for this run this time last year, but I have signed up to this and will be out jogging. :o

We have made this bigger and better than ever this year with the re-branding. T-shirt is lovely, fab medal and top class goodie bag. Just looking at the forecast today and it looks great, mild and cloudy :-)
I'm running it as part of our club team for the first time in years having always been on the organising committee, and I can't wait to experience that West St finish.
Online registration closes Thursday night, so if you're thinking about it - get in there!

Great race - almost carnival atmosphere . Most amazing route showcasing the Boyne Valley.

It’s a tough course - there is a 1k steady incline at the start as well as the dreaded hill just over 7k. (It’s more than 500m and very steep and doesn’t level out even after this for about 200/300m)

You get to sprint downhill for about 800 m before the last 1k by the river into down . You finish by running up yet another hill before running into the Main Street to the sound of Samba and big crowds .

    I love it - but I’m biased it’s my home town .

My home town gig also and love it too, one of the toughest 10ks on the go, and the final sprint over west street is like coming first in the Olympics :D

Heading up from Portarlington with the wife for this on Sunday. Looking forward to it after signing up many months ago for it after hearing some word of mouth around the positive atmosphere around it. Good to hear from some people here that its going to be the case!

T-shirt and race number collected this morning. Looks like it’s gonna be a hot one tomorrow afternoon.

    Go a T-shirt size up , tight fitting , great T-shirt .

Got my shirt posted out. Perfect fit and indeed one of the nicer t-shirts I've gotten. Looking forward to it as it's my first time doing this race. Weather looks great but not from a running point of view.

Doing this today for the first time. Not liking the heat. Hope to go out with the 70 min pacers and finish a bit ahead of them. But who knows in these conditions.

Lack of fitness, the heat, and the hills made this a tough one for me.

OTOH, the last two kilometer, downhill, were very enjoyable, and it was great passing through the fireman's hose (oooh, matron!!!). The crowd and atmosphere were fantastic too. I met my fellow DCM 17 graduate Positron after too. He said the crowd were better last year, but that's hard to believe as they were so great this year. The goodie bag was decent and the spread afterwards was great - the first time I've stayed around post-race for a spread.

I'd definitely do it again, but only if I was fitter. Would recommend.

yeah west street was a bit quieter, too many events going on in and around the town left the town centre a bit quiet but still as good a finish as anywhere.

Was my first 10k event today great atmosphere in the town. Went out with the 70 min pacers they did great job ended up going past them about 8 k. The heat and Rathmullan hill were a killer

Tell you what, if that is what you judge as a 'quieter' crowd, it would be interesting to see what a loud one is like. I was saying to my wife on the drive home that this race was really made by the amazing support the entire way around. Not since running Dun Laoghaire last year have I personally seen such a well supported race by the locals. It built up to a nice crescendo and helped for that final push for the line. Marshalls and organisers did a good job to amp things up - but also to try to navigate people within the pens to roughly where their pace was to be at. While it was tight confines for the first half a kilometer or so, there was no tripping over walkers. Fair play to the woman handing out the jellies at the bottom of the hill. I only copped last minute but it is the little things like that which made the event!

A tough run given the conditions. Didn't help that at 3PM we were probably at the height of the heat. However, I bet when organising the race there was hardly the expectation of the Irish summer to hit on the day!! I was delighted to come in bang on 50 minutes according to the chip timing. A lovely little breeze hit just as I going down the hill. Once I got over the bridge at the end I belted hard until the finish. Again, the crowd cheering helped to push on towards the finish.

    Agree about the crowds.

I do think it was marginally milder by 3pm than it had been earlier. I was there at 12pm when the shopping centre opened to pick up my number and t-shirt and it was blistering at that stage. 3 hours later the shadows were a bit longer, so probably a few degrees cooler. Sill bloomin' hot though, but the difference between low 20s and high teens I'd guess. I think the guys in Limerick, who ran through the noon height had it tougher tbh.

Ha!, we're such wimps really though aren't we? I know I, for one, would never last in a proper-hot conditions :)

The crowds were amazing. Great atmosphere all the way through the housing estate into the park and then up top the finish line. My Garmin reckons it was 20 degrees during the run.

Did this run for the third consecutive year. I was in good shape going into the run, but didn't do myself justice in the end. Heat killed me big time and consequently the hills were much tougher. I'll be back next year to have another crack!

Second time running this and enjoyed it despite the heat. As already mentioned by many posters, the atmosphere in West Street and the support along the route is top class. It was warm, everyone looking for shady spots to run etc, but support and organisation couldn't be better. Water in bottles and cups further up is an improvement over 2017, great idea, and needed it in that heat. While the hill at 7k hasn't gotten any easier, the downhill and finish are also brilliant. The finish was tad bit quieter than last year's I think, but it could also be because I was slower by about 3-4 minutes this year, may be crowd just moved on :D Also a really nice top, but only small size left by the time I picked up the number, herself is delighted with a new top! :D

I will def do it again next year!
