Where's the best place to buy bird food - seed, nuts and meal worm etc.? It seems expensive in some walk in shops so wondering where's best to source it either online or bricks and mortar. Thanks.

If you do happen to ever be either in Gorey or Tullamore, the Cash'n'Carry shops there do a big square bucket of fatballs for 7 euro

    buy - I meant buy.

First time on the Nature and bird watching forum - So basically very "green" but I've installed two feeders outside my office window and have been enthralled for the past few weeks - absolutely amazing. never thought of getting a nest box out until i read this topic today.

Great reading in here - well done to all and thanks!

I meant where can i buy online but I've had a look at woodies and a few other places on line and they are not too expensive

Ill pick up a couple over the weekend.

Or is woodies a place to be avoided - should i shop somewhere else.

All advice welcome and great to find this spot on boards

Here's a pic from a few weeks ago:

Just in relation to that Faith Screeching Steppingstone, I have mature trees opposite the house that I would like to put tit boxes up on but would it be a bad idea as the bark of a tree may provide easy access to the boxes for a cat as they can cling on to it or would it be ok do you think?

Thecornmill.com used to only order in Ireland but their delivery and food prices are cheaper than ordering here and their premium bird mix as attracted all types of birds to my garden including linnet's and bullfinches which I never had before but doesn't last long as everytype of bird fights for a spot on the feeder

I have Tit boxes, and open boxes, on mature trees and never had a problem. If cats are an issue in the garden they'll uptake birds wether it's at the nest or not.

There are a few threads here showing various crow covers for feeders.

Rather than start a new post about bird food I thought I’d ask here
Got loads of food like fat balls, suet blocks, peanuts and seeds and I filled four feeders I have on a stand at the front of the house by the window and that evening and the next morning loads of small birds feeding and it was great to see
Come lunch time the place was attacked by crows and fat balls and suet blocks wiped out, what’s the best way to avoid this happening again, I do feed the crows away from the bird feeders every day in the back garden
