    Commercial for BIK - no
As soon as its got rear seats it might be commercial road tax but not 5% BIK.

Electric. Even as far as the Teslas is 0%

Up to recently at least the Ford Kuga was eligible for commercial rate bik even though it had rear seats, electric not an option due to mileage

Hyundai i30 ipro is a 2 seat commercial hatchback and if you spend over 80% of your working week away from office/home no BIK is due ... I’ve had one for last 3 years and never paid 1 cent in bik ... it’s detaiks thison Revenue website too

In 20 years time we might have a charging infrastructure, and of course electric cars will be better than they are now.

I've wondered what people like you will do in 20 years time when you won't be able to buy a car in Ireland with an engine, and electric is your only option...

By then the batteries might be up to the job.

Hope you never meet a sticky revenue auditor

Revenue definition of a Van for BIK......

“van” means a mechanically propelled road vehicle which is designed or constructed for the carriage of goods or other burden, has a roofed area or areas to the rear of the driver’s seat, has no side windows or seating fitted in that roofed area or areas and has a gross vehicle weight not exceeding 3,500 kilograms

Pretty black and white that there are no seats behind the driver.

Auditors went through a very well known civils contractor and this was brought to their attention. The site managers driving crew cabs 4x4 valued over 50k were absolutely hammered with BIK.

The 4 Seat Kuga was not eligible for the 5% BIK rate, as the 5% BIK rate is for vans (not commercials) and Revenue's definition of a Van has no seats or Windows behind the drivers seat.

Either make do with a 2 or 3 seater van, or pay BIK are the options if an Electric isn't suitable.

Have to stick up for the OP here. There is no way I'd be able to drive an EV at work.

There are many days where it'd be fine. Commute to office and home ... lovely.

There are also days where I'm at the office to start, then 4 or 5 site visits, then back to the office, then home. 300 or 400km easy and most sites are powered by generators and more importantly run by main contractors who owe me nothing = no possible way to recharge a car. Stopping off to charge may be viable the odd day but not usually.

On top of that I note that a lot of chargers seem to be out of order or even blocked off by some genius in a diesel/petrol.

Saw a thread recently where a guy bought an EV and couldn't even drive it to Donegal without military preplanning - and was getting hammered for not planning.

I'd happily drive an EV but the infrastructure needs to be there for it first
