Freesat / Saorsat STB with Recording Facility

    Hello,

As per my previous thread I'm installing satellite into a new build.
It has been decided that we will have SkyQ in the main room and Freesat into the other rooms.

The second living room will have Saorsat & Freesat. In this room I'd like the ability to record both Freesat and Saorsat whilst watching other channels.

How is this best done? The room has 2 x sat points and a network point.

I've read the thread on this subforum relating to the Tiviar Alpha Plus Combo STB. However, am I better getting a Enigma 2 box?

I'd like for the EPG to be combined for Saorsat and Freesat to make usage easier for elderly parent who will be using it.

What do I need to get here in terms of hardware and what do I need to get the installer to do?

    Thanks.

The Tiviar IS an enigma2 box and will take 2 sat feeds to watch and record at once including a mix of Saorsat and FTA. Both sats can be mixed in any order in a favourites list.

Get an installer to provide 2 feeds of satellite and combine satellite and terrestrial on one of those cables giving you 2x sat and 1x terrestrial for the Tiviar triple combo box.

Edit, on a reread I see you've said Saorsat, not Saorview. I'd avoid Saorsat if at all possible, it requires a bigger dish and does not have TV3

Unfortunately you don't have much options for the full Saorsat Service and a set top box.

At the moment their is no approved Saorsat box for sale on the market.

The only noticeably difference with the set top boxes on the market at the moment is that you most likely won't get RTE digital Aertel, but all the Saorsat stations should work otherwise.

I don't know if anybody has tested Saorsat on the new Saorview Connect box yet, but I believe Aertel digital text may work with Saorsat on the box as it is reported the BBC red button function is working on BBC satellite channels, however the record function is not activated on the Connect box yet!

You could look at the likes of the Ferguson ariva box, it will give 7 day epg on Saorsat however only now and next on Freesat. It's easy enough to use.

Otherwise some of our other boards user's would have good knowledge on the Enigma stb's.
