I was lodging money into AIB's seven day notice savings account however I just realised they stopped giving interest!

Any decent savings accounts going at the moment?

Depends on what you regard as "decent".

KBC will give you 0.3%p.a. for a demand deposit of a lump sum of between 3k and 100k. I don't think any other bank operating in Ireland at the moment will match that.

You can do better if you can commit to regular monthly savings, rather than a lump sum deposit. Commit to between 100 and 1000 per month, and KBC will give you 2.5% p.a.

    No.

0.98% net from State Savings is possible, over several years.

1.5% for the 10 year bond, if that helps. Access to the funds with 7 days notice.

Say if there was 5K of savings, where would be the best invested? Is it too small to be invested or should it be left at the low rates?

It depends on your appetite for risk.

Depends. How long are you willing to lock it up for, or do you require instant access? Are you willing to accept an investment with a risk of volatility, and the possibility of decline in value, in order also to have the possibility of a higher return, or are you looking for something more like a deposit, in which you can always expect to get back at least the amount you invested?

I'm leaving two and a half in my current account anyway. That'll see me over forty a quarter in charges
