Vet costs for follow up visits?

I've been lucky enough to never need to bring my dog to the vet other than once a year check-ups. However recently I had to bring him three times. The initial consultation was 35 and then 25 for each follow up check, which lasted less than 5 minutes. I assumed this was the norm, but then a friend told me that her vet does not charge for follow up visits.

    What's the usual?

My vet doesn't charge for a follow up visit either, for example one of my dog's needed surgery on his toe, they wanted to see him again two days (I think) after the surgery to take the bandage off and check if the toe was healing correctly, they did not charge for this. They are the only vet I have used so I don't have anything else to compare to.

My vets doesn't have a 2nd/3rd visit cost either but if the cats/cows need further treatment I'll be charged for it.

Rarely seen any vet voluntary call again to see a animal he may have treated day before and if I asked him to call again for same animal following day,its another charge again....

On ours you'd see on the bill- Revisit No charge. Must root one up.

Haven't had one in a while so most recent was 2016, might have changed since then but it was in place.
Could also have depended on the vets mood though too:pac:

No charge for follow up here either, both for my regular vets and an eye specialist we went to recently as well.

It really depends on what the vet needs to see the animal a second time for. If it's just stitches out, or a quick look to ensure all healed/recovered well, then you can expect it to be free.

I've had (well the dogs have not me!) stitches out (some which weren't done at that vets), eyes dyed and re-checked, wound checks and haven't been charged. Even when Bailey needed dressing changes I was charged the min charge for dressings and no consolation/revisit. €35 is cheap for a consultation though so maybe thats why they're charging for revisits?
