Need advice on buying car

I am a first time driver (30 year old) with no driving history. I cleared my driving test recently.
I have got a US license since 2007 but I guess that will not count in insurance.
I'm looking to buy an old car preferably for less than €5k. I have read lot of stories related to insurance on this website. I have been quoted €2,300 for insurance for a 2014 Yaris (price €10,000). My question is if I go for a 2008 or older car will it be possible to get insurance or I should just give up or buy a new or 2014+ car?
    Thanks

Some (not all) insurers are loading based on the age of the car but a good broker will always get you a reasonable insurance quote, unless of course there are other factors at play.

I wouldn’t be put off an older car for insurance reasons personally. My wife was driving a 13 year old car until last year and she had no trouble getting insurance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to find a decent car and then call up brokers for insurance

There is an insurance forum here
Check the sticky threads like "List of insurers" and "Insurance - tell us your quotes/ renewals" that will help you.
