    Hi all,

Have recently been offered a role in the DFAT at Iveagh house, first job in the civil service and just wondering what is the Department like to work in? Is it a stricter and more formal dress code than other departments? Basically looking to hear from people who work or have worked there in the past or what people hear about the department.

    Thanks!

I visit them often to get paperwork processed. Dress code very very casual. The atmosphere is kinda dull, very much like a tax office etc. take a number and get called up and do what yah have to do. Constant flow of people so I presume they are kept busy. The job probably wouldn’t be my cup of tea.

From experiences I've had with them its a mix of some who wear suits and others who wear trousers/jumpers. It likely depends on what area you are working in as to whether its more suited and booted, smart casual or casual.

Do you mind me asking which grade you are entering at, if it is for third secretary there is a thread where you could make contact with some who've recently joined. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055440467&page=77

Dress code will depend on the grade and the area of DFAT you are working in.

    The diplomatic grades are suited.
