Extending an existing wood floor

    Hi,
We are thinking of building an extension and there is an expansive wood floor to all the ground floor. The house is 2000sq feet, so it is a pretty big floor, and gives a nice feeling of space in that it runs through all of the rooms. Is extending the existing floor something that can be done if I can source the same plank? I presume some of the existing floor would need to come up to mix in the new plank. I'm wondering if the existing planks would be adhesived in typically. The floor (Junkers) was probably installed 15 years or so ago, so i would be concerned about matching the colour, - sanding and re-laquering might an option also. It would probably be cheaper, if it could be done, than say pulling up the kitchen space and replacing with good quality tiles.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks...
    Alan
