Car registration not found

    I'm in the process of changing the ownership of a vehicle but when I search for the reg on the motortax website it says Car registration not found.

    Had some trouble with the seller (he falsified the nct cert) so after going to the guards they suggested getting the Declaration By Person Acquiring Motor Vehicle form because there's no way he's gonna send the logbook.

    So my question is this: has he managed to cause a problem or is the registration "suspended" until the new form is delivered?

    We've been over a barrel since we got this car and another problem is the last thing we need! 😅

    Does the vehicle have a tax disc, is it genuine? Is the number you are entering the same as the one on the tax disc? If you put the reg in to Cartell.ie does the car show up as the same make and model as yours?

    Could be the car was exported for VRT refund and now can't be reregistered until VRT refund money paid back.

    It has tax discs but they're out of date and yes cartell details match up. Vin and chassis number match up with the vehicle.

    The reg is the proper reg. We've been to the guards they've ran the plate and say everything is fine. It hasn't been reported stolen.

    Another scenario is the seller could have had it certified off the road by the guards for motor tax reasons?? RF150 Form?

    When I rang the tax office they didn't mention anything about getting another form, they just said get the form they sent out filled in and sent back as soon as possible.

    I am sending the completed form first thing tomorrow, it should arrive Friday so I'll call Monday and hopefully they'll be able to explain some more.

    Have you already bought this car?
    Or did you only discover this after the sale?
