Service Due covered under warranty

I just bought a 2012 Audi A6 from a main dealer, the Service Due message is appearing on the dash.

After researching this a bit it seems that only an Audi dealer can remove this message and it probably means that the timing belt is due to be changed.

I'm still within my 3 month warranty, but I'm not sure that this would be covered by it.

    Any info appreciated :)

If the service due message just needs to be reset then I'd expect them to have done that at the time of sale or if they forgot then I'd expect them to do it now and not charge you.

When was the car actually last serviced? How many miles have you driven it since you bought it? If I was buying a used car from a main dealer then I'd expect it not to need a service or a timing belt change so quickly after buying it unless you racked up big mileage in a short time. Of course you sometimes have to research things like timing belt intervals, etc yourself and if it's close to being due then then push for it to be included in the sale of the car.

Unless you've done a huge mileage i'd say they just forgot to reset the light.

Those A6s have oil service indicator and also a separate inspection indicator. The inspection one often gets missed when resetting. So you need to check and see if the car is actually due a service (unlikely) or whether it is just that the indicator wasn’t properly reset last time (much more likely)

Any decent garage can reset it. Doesn’t have to be an Audi garage.

It has no bearing on the timing belt whatsoever.

  • Thanks for the Info guys

Car is going back into the dealer for a few issues, including the inspection light that was not reset.
I've decided to drop the car into Audi too and get the the belt and gear box oil changed, for peace of mind.
