Moving from carers Benefit to carers Allowance

In August two years ago I took early retirement from my job in order to look after my elderly mother. I applied for and received Carers Benefit.

This is due to end in August and I will be applying for Carers Allowance. My job pension pays the princely sum of €112 per week  and I have a partner who works full-time. I'm worried that I may not qualify. My savings are small and I cannot afford to get by on my pension.

Is it easier to move from benefit to allowance rather than go straight to allowance? Does receiving benefit make it any easier to qualify?

Careers allowance is means tested there is a disregard got the first €665 a couple earn and if you have income over this you may qualify for a reduced rate. Best to apply now as there is a backlog.

At least 3 months for Allowance. Less for Benefit as there’s no means test.

Just to update - got a letter yesterday to say I had been approved. Total waiting time was 8.5 weeks. Not too bad :)
