so my octavia decided to stop in middle of the road yesterday about 500 yards from the house. just stopped dead. tried to start it back up but she was having none of it. got my neighbour to help me push it back, on the way she nearly started but just tailed off. my mate reckons its fuel pump. earlier when i went to it the battery was kaput so pushed it to my mechanic for him tomorrow

any thoughts on what it could be..

secondly has anyone used skodapartsireland.ie seems well priced. would these be the same parts as what i would get off a dealer? says genuine parts on the website but i don't know could that be genuine approved oem parts. anyone know of these guys.?

Your mechanic must be close to home if you pushed it all the way there?

Skodapartsireland says it's operated by Burns car sales which us a main Skoda dealer so I would expect to be receiving genuine Skoda parts.

Would you not just let your mechanic source the parts?

It's a Skoda dealer operating that site so should be fine.

    yeah his very close. luckily.

he usually tells me source the part. years ago when i had an issue the motor factors he used were trying to shaft me so i got the part online. he just goes to me since to source it online first before he orders it.

In relation to the problem with your car a shot battery could and would stop your car and seems a likely first point to check when you mention it was dead when you came back to it, I had a similar issue with a Passat a year or two back when it would randomly break down and cause all manner of issues, turned out that the battery was weak and even though it would start the car it couldn’t maintain the voltage the control units needed to operate correctly causing them to switch off. Your best bet is to let the mechanic at it. He will no doubt have the necessary diagnostic gear to find out what’s going on.

As for skodaparts site, I’ve heard a few mates buying from them and it’s all good.
