Cost of Garda Vetting

I work in a scuba diving school and we want to ensure all our instructors have full Garda vetting for instructing kids. I read up on the online eVettign system and followed the directions to write to the vetting bureau. They sent me an application form, that I filled in & to which they responded that, based on the work we do, we may avail of vetting services.

However rather then allow us to use eVetting directly (which I assumed) they directed us to Ireland Active Leisure Management to process al vetting requests.

So I contacted them and they told me that they do this service for members, and it will cost us €400 to join. They could then manage the vetting for our instructors at a cost of €18 per person.

I have no issue with Ireland Active Leisure Management, and I certainly have no objection to paying admin charges for vetting requests. However I am not sure it is fair for the vetting bureau insist we go through an organisation that requires us to take out membership to get the vetting done. For a small operation, like ours, €400 is not insignificant.

Is there an alternative path I can follow so that we pay per vetting request, but don't have to join some arbitrary organisation?

PS - thread title should be "Cost of Garda Vetting" .. unfortunately cannot edit that

The Vetting Bureau can only take requests fot vetting by a registered liaison person belonging to a "relevant organisation", if you don't have a registered liaison person then you have no choice theb to use such a company who are registered. The fact that they charge for their service would not be a matter for the Gardaí. This is a statutory requirement and there is no way around it.

I have no objection to paying for the service, but having to become a member of an organisation we would otherwise not join is an imposition. I will talk to the vetting bureau tomorrow to see if there are alternative relevant organisations who don't demand membership

Is your club an affilated member of the Irish Underwater Council ? Talk to them if so.

Whether you are PADI or CFT, the same rules apply. Have you asked in the Scuba Diving forum ???

The sames rules apply I'd imagine.

From 1 January 2018, anyone who will work with juveniles/vulnerable adults on a regular basis must be Garda vetted prior to the start of the work. Sports Ireland are preparing guidelines to support clubs with this legislation. Further information can be found on the tusla website, link below, or contact the National Children Officer, Fidelma Carroll using the following email address – childrenofficeriuc@gmail.com

Yes the rules apply, I'm not questioning them, I'm just frustrated that we cannot get vetting completed without joining an organisation that we otherwise do not need, nor wish, to be a member of. Cost+ for each vetting request is fine, an annual membership, if avoidable, is not.

    Hi all please help!!
I am starting a new role with a council and need to be Garda vetted. I was vetted last year fora similar post. i have my main residence in NI and after a year of commuting and staying with friends i have now signed a lease in the republic. When filling in the application i put my NI address as my last address before taking up the lease. I didn't think i needed to include staying with friends addresses?? i used the addresses for some correspondence as well. Do you think this i why my application was rejected and will i be fined?? i really didn't think. but looking at it now i can understand

    thanks Liz
