I'm currently covering a maternity leave in primary. How long is a maternity leave for a teacher in a primary school? Like say if someone went out on maternity leave the end of February, when will they be back teaching? The principal didn't really say when she will be back.

Maternity leave is 26 weeks. There is then also the option of up to 16 weeks unpaid leave. There is then also the option of parental leave. So the principal, realistically won't know when the teacher will be back. They'll know roughly when they're due back, but they'll also know that they may take additional leave after that.

Without any extra leave a teacher that goes out on maternity leave at the end of February would be due back around September.
