Further to my post a week or two back about my dead door (still broken) my dash has started flashing warning lights, ESP, ABS, battery. then the other day it went dead while driving, then came back on. Battery light has been on a lot over last week.

It happened again on way home tonight, dead, the flashing lots of warnings, and engine idling at about 1,500. Managed to limp home and took out a volt meter, measured 10.2 volts at cig lighter. Started car and showing 9.5. Would not start a second time so stuck now.

Car has always been a strong starter, first turn of key so I'm thinking it's the alternator. Any ideas to confirm?

Is it worth getting it repaired or just get a new one?

    Hi,

No, its been in the car since I got it 2 years ago, I might see a date on it in the light tomorrow. It has been very strong up to now, I even started 2 cars during the snow!

No date on battery and pretty dead this morning as expected.

If you are getting 10 odd volts at 1500 you will most likely need to replace or repair the alternator, there is other issues like wiring that could cause it but unlikely , I'd get it repaired if there is someone locally that can do it for you.

It was the alternator, got new one and no problems last 2 weeks.
