Hi guys, me and my partner are after booking Gougane Barra church for our wedding ceremony and are now looking for a nice relaxed venue within an hour's drive. We are looking for a more rustic/vintage type of hotel or resort. We will have around 150 guests so a lot of the smaller pretty country houses are ruled out. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Doesn’t Gougane Barra (assuming you mean the little church there) have a maximum capacity of 70? Not to nit-pick, just curious about where the other 80 guests will stand!

The Maritime hotel in Bantry is lovely, caters for both big and small groups.

I would echo the above poster though. I was at a wedding in Gougane Barra a few years ago. We were made stand outside during the ceremony (church was packed ) and once the rain started it became a free for all to get back to the car. Even the older relatives had brought their own chairs to sit on as they must have known they'd be outside!

yes we are planning to have our full 150 at the reception and just immediate family and wedding party at the church. We have thought about telling everyone that they can come to the church but to be aware that there might not be seating for all. Haven't landed on what way we will go yet but we are not changing the church as the both of us absolutely love it :)

its a july wedding so hopefully the weather will be good :D heres hoping

You could try somewhere like Bantry House or Blair's Cove (in Durrus), however, the numbers might not match what they usually cater for. The Maritime is nice, but it doesn't stock 'Murphy's' (the drink) at all as it's operated by Diageo and people locally seem to have an issue with that. I was there for a wedding about 4 years ago and it was really lovely and nicely decorated. The hotel itself is quite modern and the staff are nice as well.
The Westlodge is nice, but I was there for a wedding and wouldn't rate it massively. There's a lovely hotel called Seaview in Ballylickey which is closer to Gougane Barra. There's also the Eccles in Glengarriff, which is popular in the area. Glengarriff itself is gorgeous (about the same distance as Gougane to Bantry) and there would be amazing views for pictures and stuff. Hope it all works out. I'm from Bantry so let me know if you need more info :-)
