Hello. My husband is currently driving our Citroen Picasso and the automatic gears just stopped working (you can also use the manual hand gears at the wheel). Loads of lights came on including handbrake and gear box lights.. he is currently able to drive the car using manual gears but car won't go past 35mph. Anybody got any idea what is going on?

Not sure if they have a gear box oil level check, if they do first thing I would do is check the level of the oil to see if it's gone. I'd say until you know the reason for the fault driving it would be a bad idea as you may cause irrepairable damage to the gearbox. You really need to have the fault codes read in order to diagnose the actual problem, any mechanic should be able to read them.

First of all, is it an automated manual (gear selector will have R,N,A,M) or an automatic (gear selector will have P,R,N,D,M) because this two gearboxes are completely different.

He is coming home from work now.

I'm not sure the correct terms but just to confirm we always drive only in the automatic option..you can choose to drive by manually changing the gears with the lever on the steering wheel. I only drive automatic myself

Similar happened to my Citroen Grand Picasso recently - it was a big leak of oil from the gearbox - it had to be replaced. My car stopped driving altogether, with all warning and service lights appearing on the dashboard. No advice really, except get it checked out as soon as you can at a garage who can deal with the Citroen semi-automatic gearboxes. We had to get ours towed to Universal Gearbox in Rathfarnham.

I am pretty sure there is no P for park option

If this poster's Citroen is the same as mine, it's RNAM - automated manual.
