Vet prescription

    Hi all

    Hoping someone know this. We have two Maltese terrier pups and they have been getting advocate for fleas and worms etc. Today when I went the vets they no longer do advocate and now use Prinovox.

    Each treatment of advocate was €14 and not prinovox is €11. So been costing me €28 and month and now €22 a month.

    So I went online to see can I buy it.

    I can get either for less than half that price online but I have to provide a vet prescription.

    Can I just get a vet prescription from the vet? If it was a gp i can get a prescription and have it filled anywhere.

    Is it the same with vets or must I buy from them?

    ASFAIK vets can write script & you can get them where you want. When our terrier needs meds that are also used in humans they give us the script & we then get it from the chemist. When his meds are for animal use only we get them via the vet as they are usually such small quantities that it wouldn’t be worth getting on the net with shipping & VAT.

    Vet is obliged to provide script if animal is under their care (but can, and usually will, charge for it - expect €10-15 per item at worse). However, if you tell the vet you are ordering online from the UK technically they can refuse to provide a script for this as it's illegal so best not to mention exactly where you plan to have the prescription filled

    Our vet never charges for scripts as they are covered by visit like if you get it from your GP, even for the repeats, but we donate food & bedding to help people with pets who need the extra help.
