Booking a surprise trip to Las Vegas for my husband and his brother and wife. First time to visit Vegas so I’d appreciate any help!! Should I book with travel agent or do it online? Where to stay, best time to travel, cheaper times to travel, any activities that we could include also weather etc. hopefully staying for 5 nights

    Thanks in advance

Vegas gets extremely hot in the summer, so watch out.

You can do all the bookings online, look at the hotels along the strip and see if they fall within your budget. Plan for the room that is within your budget and expect the hotel to offer to upgrade your for a cost when you check in, this is a con!, but only if you fall for it.

Please note that by "extremely hot" they mean that a fit person will need a load of water to walk outside. Everywhere has aircon, but you'll be limited to what you can do if you wanted to do sightseeing outside.

Right now, it's 25 degrees. And that's 10pm on a Saturday night! It can reach 40 degrees in July.

If he likes his sport, perhaps see if there's any dates that do stuff related to that sport?

one tip is say no to people selling time shares. we went years ago and they were at evert casino saying quick 30 min tour for show tickets. we went thinking 30 mins. it turns out to be over half a day wasted and it was so far away you cant really leave as we went by bus. i was very annoyed.

loved Vegas though. great place. we bought daily bus tickets as its huge and very hot. have a great time.

Helicopter to grand canyon expensive but worth it. See a show and visit all the casinos. 5 days is a lot but the place is mad as a brush

Thanks so much for the tips, really appreciate. I’m thinking of going around March so hopefully we will be able for the heat!! Definitely going to do helicopter tour of Grand Canyon, so much to choose from in relation to hotels plus it seems they add a daily fee also which differs from each hotel

I was there last August gone.
    1. Make sure you stay in decent hotel in centre of strip so your not walking everywhere as heat is too much I made this mistake. Mgm I would recommend or Bellagio if you are made of money:)

2.if you want to drink for cheap find the cheapest gambling machine and sit at it half pretending to play as waitress will come round asking you what drink you would like you can ask for anything cocktails etc. Tip them 3-4dollars per drink the more you tip the quicker they come round. Drink prices go up after 10pm at alot of bars I paid 16dollars for a bottle of Budweiser in the mgm after 10pm I was shocked.

    3. Do an activity like shoot guns at a range or helicopter ride over Vegas or grand canyon for example.

4.weed is legal there now you only need passport to buy in the weed dispensarys and hotels turn blind eye to smoking in room so expect to smell weed in your bedroom and hotel hallways, as I said fancier the hotel less of a problem this should be.

5.Its a brilliant place but be warned of the seedier side of the place I was shocked at amount of prostitutes at bars alot of them clearly off their head on drugs I even seem there pimps interacting with them hotels turn blind eye. "Its a dark place hidden behind bright lights" was the way one taxi man described it too me one night.

Not really. You're not going to stay in Circus Circus because the resort fee is 5 dollars less than a four or five star resort.

Most of the hotels grouped around The LINQ / Caesars / HollyWood are all the same resort fee's with different room prices

They most certainly do not turn a blind eye to smoking weed in the rooms of the hotel. In fact all MGM properties are smoke free in the bedrooms now so expect a hefty fine and to be chucked out if you are caught doing this.

They also don't turn a blind eye to prostitutes and you often see them being escorted from properties if they do go into them or even anywhere near them.

Vegas is an amazing place, enjoy it.

I was going to say this, they don't turn a blind eye and it is illegal to consume marijuana anywhere except a residential property which a hotel is not. If they smell weed in your room you will be charged a hefty cleaning fee at the very least. Luckily there are plenty of edible products available if you are so inclined

March won't be hot at all, it usually starts to really heat up around April although this year has been cooler than usual. I advise renting a car and driving out to local attractions like red Rock canyon and the Hoover dam. Also, go to a golden knights game, great fun even if you aren't a hockey fan

Depending on your budget you can have whatever type of hotel you want, from basic to luxury. Just dont stay at circus circus. My fave is the Bellagio. The Palazzo is good too imo with large suite style rooms and is smaller so not a huge walk to get to your room.but again, depends on your budget.

There are Walgreens/CVS stores along the strip where you can buy alcohol and snacks for a more reasonable price. Buy lots of water for your room too, between the drinking and the dry air you'll need it. You don't want to pay mini bar prices when you wake up parched!

Bellagio is really nice if the budget can stretch, stayed for one night at the end of our trip, stayed 4 nights at the New York, New York hotel which was grand but don't think I'd stay there again if I was to go back. MGM is supposed to be really good, few of my friends stayed there last year. You can buy discounted tickets for shows at the Tix for Tonight booths located on the strip definitely do a couple of shows if ye can. Terry Fator does a brilliant ventriloquist show highly recommend that.

Hi all, hope its OK to jump in and ask.a question. Thinking of going to Las Vegas mid to.end of January. What will the weather be like then? Will it be suitable for outdoor swimming. And what time will it get dark at? Thanks

I think the outdoor pools will likely be closed in January.

It will be chilly in January and freezing or near to it at night. Hotels might have one pool open but probably not the main one, definitely no sunbathing! Gets dark fairly early at that time of year, between 4 and 5
