Some of the 42 series had the spring in gearbox problem. Spring couple of euro but tractor needed be split to replace.
42 series was last of the banner lane made.
43 has console mounted gear stick and side mounted exhaust, made in France.
Neither had major problems and relatively easy repair and minimal electrical gremlins.
Think the 43 cab is slightly nicer

Neighbour has a 4255 and has had problems with starters. Other than that it's pretty reliable though I don't find it a terribly nice tractor to drive. I have a Case CX 90 that's 2 years older but is more ergonomic to drive

Neighbour has a 4255 with a loader on it, hasn't ever given a moment's bother that I'm aware of.

have a '04 4355 with snoopy nose bonnet since last year, going fine so far, agree with Bogman gears are a bit clumsy.
The alternator was going when I bought it so garage covered a new one, starts on the button and nippy enough, cab is cosy wouldn't want to be a big guy.

It's ideal for me as the yard is quite tidy.

Bar the dash no real electronic's touch wood it'll be lucky for many years to come

Here's a thread on MF 4255 from last year. Other threads on here before as well, have a search through them for more opinions / issues. Have a 4255 6 years now and find it a nice comfortable reliable tractor, minimal electronics so no issues in that dept.
